The Goals of Youth Ministry
The goals of Catholic Youth Ministry as put forth by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops are:
1. To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in the world today.
2. To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
3. To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
Everyone in youth ministry should have a copy of the document, "Renewing the Vision; A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry" available form the United States Catholic Conference, 1-800-235-8722, outside the US at 202-722-8716, on the web at www.usccb.org. The book is about $5.00. Your diocesan youth office may have free copies available. The document explains in depth how these goals are carried out through the eight missions of the church and is a MUST for anyone in Catholic Youth Ministry.
